Click the Initial Nitrogen component and set the starting NO3 to 50 kg/ha and starting NH4 to 3 kg/ha. Make sure ‘Filled from top’ is selected and set the fraction available to 10%.ĩ. Expand the new soil node and click Initial Water. We need to set the starting water and nitrogen conditions for the soil. You can reorder components by right clicking and choosing Move Up/Down.Ĩ. Delete the old soil by clicking it and pressing delete.

Drag the Heavy Clay soil node from the toolbox and drop it on the paddock node in your simulation.ħ. Click the Training toolbox that you loaded earlier. Note that you can’t add anything to this training toolbox as the Program Files folder is write protected.Ħ. You can also copy them directly from another toolbox. You can add your own components to toolboxes by dragging and dropping them from a simulation. This toolbox contains components that you can use in the training session. You should now see the following (your path will be different):Ĭlick OK and you will see the new toolbox in the toolbox bar at the bottom of the APSIM window. You will now see the new simulation loaded. Remember this location, as you will save all training modules to this location. Create a new folder called ‘Apsim Training’ to save all of your work in. Click ‘Continuous Wheat.apsim’ then click Open.Ģ. For the purpose of this exercise we will use the Continuous Wheat simulation. The best method is to choose the simulation closest to the one you want to build then modify it. You will be presented with the following screen:īecause all simulations generally share the same base components, we do not recommend starting from scratch. Press the new button to create a new simulation. We will create a simulation that examines the water balance over time in a fallow field in two locations with different soil types.ġ.
